Check out this new FWISD reading challenge put on  in conjunction with a partnership of various literacy efforts. The winning team gets to go to the NCAA women's gymnastics meet!
Readers Become Leaders (aka, Reading Olympics) kicks off on Monday, January 28, 2019 and will run through April 2019. Waverly Park is part of the Balance Beam team. See below for details.  All forms will be coming home with students. Be sure to log their hours!

Thank you for signing your campus up to participate in the NCAA Team Works’ Readers Become Leaders competition! This is a wonderful opportunity for students, teachers, and campuses to earn incentives for advancing literacy. Schools were randomly divided into teams using an online random generator. You will find a one-page information sheet, reading log for students, and the assigned teams attached.

The competition begins MONDAY, JANUARY 28. The steps for the competition are as follows:
1. Students will complete a weekly reading log (attached).
2. Teachers will tally the number of minutes read by each student in the class and submit the total minutes as well as their number of students to the campus designee.
Teachers should keep the reading logs until the competition is complete (April).
3. The campus designee will enter the teachers’ data into the tracker (A link to the tracker will be posted by Friday on the PLI website). The tracker needs to be completed each Friday by 2 p.m. so incentives and prizes can be awarded in a timely manner.
